Lilac Bush

Every time we go running, I have to stop at this lilac bush and smell it.  It's quite wonderful!!

The aspen trees are quite lovely to listen too as well. :)

PEEC

I went to the PEEC Grand Opening this week.  The new PEEC is amazing!!  It is such an asset to the town and I look forward to going again at a less busy time in the near future. :)

Rain/Snow

Such pretty rain and snow today!  (The picture below was taken by someone else, but is in the general vicinity.) :)

Brewpub

Yay! Went to the Brewpub in Los Alamos this evening. So good!  Had the Pretzel Banger sandwich with sweet potato fries and a crème brûlée to top everything off.  We sat at the bar since no seating was available elsewhere, and while I have never sat at a bar before, I certainly will again.  The service was very attentive, we got to sit right next to each other, and we had good views of the televisions to watch the Vancouver Canucks vs the Calgary Flames. (The Flames won.)  Nathan had the Bangers and Mash, but we still think our Bangers and Mash is better... :)

Fun Cups

Nathan made me fun cups!  He drilled holes in the top of two canning lids, which fit our straws perfectly.  We put chocolate milk inside to try it out.  Works great, and yum!

Earth Day Tree

During our rotation times today, I had every 2nd grader color a hand with appropriate Earth Day pictures.  I then made it into a tree and hung it up for Literacy Night at school this evening.

Cat Collar

Nathan's mother got our cat Amalie a Nature Calming Pheromone collar to hopefully help with her anxiety levels.  After the initial upset over having a new collar put on, she seems quite relaxed and happy.  Hopefully it keeps helping!

Poirot

We have been watching quite a bit of Poirot again, so fun!  This is a bit of an older pic from a few months ago, but it's so funny.

Nathan is channeling Poirot:

Walk

Took a lovely walk with Nathan tonight!  The flowers and trees were all blooming and smelling wonderful.  It was odd though because a cold front came in, and so all the signs of spring were present, without the warmth.

Mystery Box

One of the greatest Sesame Street videos: "Kermit and Cookie Monster and the Mystery Box."  I watched this with Nathan tonight. So funny!

Lemon Blossoms!

I had really about given up on our Lemon Tree. I thought that it may not produce lemons any longer after the Scale infestation. We haven't had lemons for around two years, but I am happy to report lemon blossoms with the hope of lemons in the near future!

Owls

My students are adorable.  They really think I just LOVE owls.  That's fine with me.  I really do like owls, and I am fine with the thoughtful owl gifts I have gotten this year.  The owl below I got from a student around a week before Christmas Break. A different student then got the bird for me so that the owl would have a buddy next to him. (So cute!)

Play

I love this quote by Mr. Rogers.  It makes me think of my  students and how best to teach them and let them learn.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

I also like this quote: “You rarely have time for everything you want in this life, so you need to make choices. And hopefully your choices can come from a deep sense of who you are. ”

Kites and Pies in the Classroom

We have done a couple fun activites in the class lately! In another 2nd grade teacher's room, the kids made spring Haikus and then put the Haiku on a kite they made. So cute!

We also have been working on fractions in class. The students each colored a fractioned circle, cut it up, and then made new circles with the fractioned circles their classmates colored.  It turned out really nice!

Roses

The grocery store had a bunch of flowers on sale, so I picked up a pretty bouquet of yellow roses.  They look quite quaint in my Ocracoke pitcher! :)

Dandelions

Hooray, Dandelions in our backyard!  As Nathan's mom says, "A weed's not a weed unless it's in a place or a type you don't want." Dandelions were my first favorite flower/weed, so I'm quite okay with their presence. :)  Plus, our backyard is rather mountainous, so they fit right in!

Spring Break Baking Day

Ack! The poptarts came out very wrong, (due to forgetting 1/4 cup water in the dough, it wasn't terribly malleable) but they are delicious!!  And of course, the stand-by: Multigrain Bread. MMmmm!

Cat Chair

Today I traded out our older, gross, broken office chair which the cats had adopted as their snuggle place, and made a new cat chair.  This one is less cushy, but much easier to wash when it gets too covered with cat hair.

Easter Weekend

What a wonderful Easter!!  We went to Colorado and had a great time at Logan's birthday party, having lunch with Beth, haircuts and dinner with Sarah and Andrew, and spending all day with Bob and Jean at Crossroads and at the cabin on Easter Day!

Happy Birthday to Logan!

Beautiful moon rise

So pretty!

Balloon

For Aril Fools Day at my job, we all colored a balloon to put in the Principal's office.  She would walk in to a room full of balloons with peoples' faces on them, and then she would have to identify us by our balloon.  Here's mine!

Treat

Today my lovely mentor at my job took me and another coworker out to lunch to celebrate that I am now a level II teacher. It was such a wonderful lunch!! :) So grateful for her help and support!
